Interestingly most of the other schools that made the top ten list were based in New South Wales. We delved into the details to uncover the top 10 most expensive schools in Victoria. As it tops the national list, it’s no surprise Geelong Grammar School is the most expensive school in Victoria. Coming in at $46,344 per annum for a Year 12 student in 2023, this figure is set to rise again in 2024.

Geelong Grammar School is fast becoming famous for its title of ‘most expensive school in Australia’. Enjoying the validation that comes from King Charles describing his time at Timbertop as “by far the best part” of his education, GGS has recently announced an 8 per cent price hike on its annual fees for 2024.

Location: Burwood, Victoria
One of Victoria’s most prominent Jewish schools, Mount Scopus boasted in December 2022 that 10 per cent of its VCE students attained an ATR of at least 99. This follows on from consistently excellent academic results for its co-ed students over recent years.

With its distinct purple uniform, Wesley College is certainly a famous name within Victorian private school circles. With three campuses in Elsternwick, St Kilda Road and Glen Waverley, Wesley is the first International Baccalaureate World School in Victoria to offer a full IB curriculum.

Location: Armadale, Victoria
As the name suggests, Lauriston is an all-girls school based in the well-heeled Victorian suburb of Armadale. Established in 1901, Lauriston is the first school in our list to charge sub-$40k for Year 12 school fees. All Year 9 students attend the rural Howqua campus as full-time boarders.

Another Armadale-based school but this time a Jewish, co-educational institution. The King David School was formed as recently as 1978 by a collection of Rabbis, educationalists and members of the progressive Temple Beth Israel in the local community. The year 2000 saw the school extend to Year 12.

Bialik College is a co-educational, Jewish Zionist school based on Auburn Road in Hawthorn. In 2020, Bialik College achieved the best VCE results in Victoria for the third time in five years. As recently as September 2023, Bialik opened their new science building – named the ‘Alan Finkel Launch Lab’.

MGGS is a South Yarra-based independent school for girls that ‘aspires to develop ethical women of action’. This very premise was demonstrated in a 2021 student vote to drop the name of Melbourne founder John Batman from one of its houses. The house in question is now named ‘Blackwood House’.

Simply known as ‘Grammar’, Melbourne Grammar School has a rich history of over 160 years. Boasting former Prime Ministers, State Premiers and ‘Australians of the Year’, Melbourne Grammar’s alumni is quite impressive. Grammar is co-ed from Prep to Year 6 but purely a school for boys from Years 7 to 12.

Location: Toorak, Victoria
St Catherine’s School is a Christian girls’ day and boarding school in Toorak. The school’s Senior VIII rowing crew were proud winners of Prince Philip Challenge Trophy at the Henley Royal Regatta in 2022 while two VCE students were awarded The Melbourne Chancellor’s Scholarship, also in 2022.

Location: Hawthorn, Victoria
Scotch College comes in at just over $38k for fees in 2023 but have already announced their fees for 2024 – which will see them come in at $40,386 for a Year 12 student. Scotch College is the wealthiest school in Victoria (and second wealthiest in Australia) based on assets valued at $314 million.
